Common questions

Where are my save files?

Windows: %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Silly Potato\

silly_potato_save.jsoncoins, upgrades, best distance, achievements, settings
silly_potato_save.bakautomatic backup, used if the main file is damaged
silly_potato_leaderboard.jsonyour local hall of fame

All three are synced by Steam Cloud. To back up by hand, copy the whole folder.

How do I turn Steam Cloud off?

In your Steam Library, right-click Silly Potato → Properties → General → untick Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud.

Do this before deleting a save you don't want back — otherwise Steam will helpfully restore it on the next launch.

I want to start over from zero

Settings → Reset Progress. That clears coins, every upgrade, your best distance, run count, your top-five runs, and the game's own achievement record.

It cannot clear your Steam achievements. Steam does not let a game take achievements back once they are on your account. Reset Progress only touches the local save.
My achievements aren't unlocking

Steam has to be running and signed in. If you played offline, the game records unlocks locally and pushes them the next time it connects — start the game once with Steam online and they should appear.

Silly Potato has 32 achievements. None of them are missable.

The leaderboard shows the wrong name

When Steam is running, your Steam persona name is used and overrides the name you typed in the game. Names are shortened to 14 characters so they fit the row.

Playing without Steam? The game falls back to a local board and uses the name from EDIT NAME on the main menu.

Flashing, screen shake and other comfort settings

All in Settings:

Reduce Flashingremoves the white launch flash and the radial speed lines
Screen Shaketurns off camera shake entirely
Master / Music / SFXthree independent volume sliders, plus mute
The bat feels laggy, or the game stutters

Two settings are worth trying, in this order:

1. Display Mode → Fullscreen. Borderless behaves like a window for mouse input on Windows, and a high-polling-rate mouse can flood it. Exclusive fullscreen is the default for exactly this reason.

2. FPS Cap. Capping near your monitor's refresh rate gives each frame more headroom and stops small hitches turning into dropped frames. V-Sync defaults to Mailbox, which degrades more gracefully than plain V-Sync.

First launch takes a long time

A slow first start is usually your antivirus scanning the executable, not the game. Subsequent launches are much faster. If it happens every time, adding the game's install folder to your antivirus exclusions normally fixes it.

Where do I find my logs?

%APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Silly Potato\logs\

Attach the newest file to your bug report — it makes almost every problem faster to find.

Controls

Your pointer is the bat. There is no aiming reticle and no click-to-swing menu.

Partial controller support. Everything above works on a pad, but the EDIT NAME field does not open Steam's on-screen keyboard, so you need a keyboard to change your leaderboard name. That single gap is why the store page says Partial rather than Full.

Refunds

Refunds are handled by Valve, not by us. Any purchase can be refunded within 14 days if you have played less than 2 hours, through Steam Support. Runs last about thirty seconds, so two hours is a genuinely fair look at the game.

If something is broken, though, please write first — we would rather fix it.
